Chromevox Next is the new evolution of Chromevox, but Classic Chromevox has these possible flaws. Since Chromevox Next can read controls on the webpage of Draft2Digital’s website. Like issues with Chromevox Classic… its the same problem!
New Problems You May Encounter
If you used Chromevox before… and you were a master of using this interface on Draft2Digital itself. Your tricks will NOT work at this time. I started sharing these tricks via Chromebook Central. I’ve been posting problem rollups with Chromevox,–bringing them to light,–letting other users know about these issues.
You used the mouse before! But it will not work at this time, because, Chromevox itself may be redesigned, but your device only has one exclusive screen-reader.
However; this is NOT an issue with Chromevox itself, its an issue with Draft2Digital itself!
My Analysis
I visited Draft2Digital’s website, and I used the new keyboard navigation commands. What I just noticed… my mouse that is going to change focus isn’t going to work because, this option is missing! I have to use these jump commands to jump to each form elements, links, buttons, radio buttons, checkboxes, graphics, and more.
I navigated to my account dashboard, and go to formatting and advanced settings, or something similar… I can land on a control, but there’s some problems when I tried to use the space bar to force click on an item, use the arrow keys, and jumping to checkboxes:
- All controls that are checkboxes, sliders, and radio buttons are NOT visible to Chromevox. However; the labels for a control can be read. I use the Chromevox-X command to jump to checkboxes, but Chromevox itself can’t land on a checkbox because, the elements on this website isn’t complying with accessibility guidelines
- Image-based buttons don’t have
Alt
With all of these controls,–except for their blog… they have problems. Most likely their site is NOT compatable with Chromevox Next. If you were on a previous version of Chrome OS… you can work around these issues by using your mouse to interact with these controls. If you were on a recent version of Chrome OS… your workaround will not work. Type Chromevox-A-I to report an issue.
If you were still on a previous version of Chrome OS
If you were on a previous version of Chrome OS… Turn on Chromevox, and set navigation to object mode. Be sure to turn on a feature to use a mouse to change focus.
If you are on a recent version of Chrome OS
File a bug, or feature request to let developers know about your issue with Chromevox.
Instructions to report issues with Draft2Digital’s website itself,–regarding accessibility
If you ran to the same issues what I experienced, send them a friendly email… and write down all of these issues what you’ve encountered with their website. Here are the important guidelines when submitting your issue:
- Don’t write any foul words – the developers will NOT understand what you’re saying via email.
- Don’t write in all caps. You should only use caps sparingly, for example; titling headings.
- Provide attatchments if needed,–if you want to provide more information about your issue. You may provide videos that explain your issue.
When refering to websites that focus on blind accessibility; don’t put too much of these links,–otherwise your email will be totally spammy in nature. If you can write a detailed email with attatchments; the more of the developers will be able to focused on your recurring issue,–just like what I’m experienced today!
Send your email,–after writing down your report, and wait for a response. If you can receive a response, be sure to check it to confirm if they responded to your report.
If you can’t use Chromevox,–due to stalling, or stuttering
If Chromevox is severely damaged, you can use a different computer to file a long report with accessibility on Draft2Digital itself.
