Although; you are a Windows user who heavily relies on Microsoft Windows 10 as a way to run your PC for everyday use, but you were about to run Ubuntu Linux inside Virtualbox as a guest OS, don’t do it! Instead, replace Windows with Ubuntu for the best results.
Although; some people believe Windows is a standard OS for most PCs, but some people begin to dislike Windows because, they’re concerned of viruses, and other threats.
Although; I used to use Windows as an OS of choice, but I migrated to Linux as a way to reduce dependency of Microsoft. Although; most Windows OSs made by Microsoft are broken, dirty, or even a mess!
Why NOT Use Virtualbox To Run Linux When Using Windows 10
This is NOT a good idea because, you are technically using Windows, and even if you have hardware virtualization enabled… you are dependent on Microsoft’s WSL, a controversial implementation. However; viruses can still infect your files in your virtual machine in Windows. If you were just wondering, here’s my story about why I refused to use WSL:
WSL Is NOT Open-Source Software
After I bought a new HP tower from Walmart; I was excited to use a PC, and return back to a PC world, but I must create a Microsoft account when using Windows 10; an OS that is susceptible to breakage. I discovered Kali Linux installed with my HP tower, but I don’t have any interest with this app because, I prefer to run Linux as a native OS on muy machine.
As I run other browsers on this Windows PC; they often crash, and I must replace Windows with a different OS.
With running my favorite online app like Hideout TV, that caused me to rely on efforts that prevent my browsers from crashing, and I must find a way to keep these apps running like normal. Windows updates that slow me down has caused me to restart my machine each time, and I must remove McAfee Security and other unwanted bloat from my machine’s HDD. Unwanted software bundled with Windows is a known issue for me.
With these updates to Windows, it can also cause me to rely on secure boot to keep my system locked to position. This lockin has caused me to replace this OS as I get help with a visual person who is willing to help.
Today, measures has been taken to keep Windows at bay. Ubuntu Linux has been installed as my native OS, and Windows 10 is installed as a guest OS.
To me, Microsoft Windows is only designed for PC users who prefer closed-source software, or be used as a guest OS for virtual machines. Installing Ubuntu via Virtualbox or relying on WSL is like being restricted to a specific area of a fairground. With Linux installed on my virtual machine; it’s like getting more freedom in a fairground. If you aren’t sure about my thoughts; I’ve broken it down for ease of translating my thoughts:
If You Use Linux As A Native OS
With Ubuntu installed on my native machine; I can rely more freedom of a fairground; it’s like choosing a ride that is equal for both kids and adults. For this instance, you wanted to ride a poodle that is card-operated; it’s large enough for kids and adults. Although; this fairground is portable, and it can go anywhere,–without needing to buy land, and set a permanent location. This is useful to reduce damage by storms, and other events.
With Linux installed on your native machine; a variety of amusement rides are larger and durable.
If you have Linux applications; and you were relying on open-source software; it’s like purchasing food for you and your friends with a low price. If Linux is used on amusement rides; that can cause ride-making companies to generate at least 40% in savings… keeping them in business. Even open-source software can save them money and resources.
If Windows is installed in a virtual machine; it’s like setting up a shop that is located outside of a fairground.
Having Linux installed as a native OS is like erasing 1000 cars off the road, and selling your vehicle for taking public transportation each day. It’s also like ditching your automobile for an underground subway.
Windows being installed inside a virtual machine is like renting a building for running an arcade for other games.
If you have Linux; it’s like keeping rabbits as pets,–just like this lady. It’s also like enabling your children to interact with these bunnies with caution what they should take. It’s kind of like removing barriers. It’slike converting an old rabbit farm into a large garden with trees.
With Linux; you help cut air pollution like a champ, and you make it easier for cyclists to use streets to go places. It’s also like banning automobiles from using public streets in your area.
Using Linux enables you to get full ownership of your machine.
You can update your machine at anytime. It’s like performing home maintenance on Monday. Like owning property; you strategically purchase equipment to protect your home against floods and other disasters. It’s like installing a fire-protection system or dervice for protecting your property.
It’s like freeing up roads for public transit vehicles to rely on these streets.
It’s like life without a car.
It’s like removing the meat industry.
If you have Windows 10 Installed as a native OS
It’s like restricting rides that are too small for adults, and it’s like relying on proprietary software everyday. It’s also like supporting companies who drill for crude oil.
If you were using Windows 10; it’s also like setting up a permanent location for your fairground. You must purchase insurance, and spend money on ways to keep flood water at bay, and you must find ways to protect your property against storms, and other damage. If your fair is located at a susceptible areas that are susceptible to fires; you need to add measures to protect against threats caused by fires.
Using Windows is like owning a car, and you must perform repairs if your vehicle breaks down. It’s also like generating more CO2 each day. If you own a car; it’s also like paying property taxes each day, and you must top up gasoline, and you must pass driving test. If you were in a crash; it’s like your PC crashing with a serious error. If your vehicle is totalled, you may need to replace it, it’s like reinstalling Windows, or replacing an entire PC.
Running Windows is like farming rabbits for meat, and you have a family who strictly eat rabbit as a survival source of food to eat. It’s also like supporting the meat industry who cause issues with our environment. If you ate meat that isn’t cooked correctly, it’s like catching a virus on your PC, and if you were ill… it’s like your computer failing to boot, and you must purchase anti-virus programs that are too expensive.
Owning a Windows PC is like missing out on Linux.
You don’t fully own your machine. It’s licensed to you like a contract that lasts for a long time.
You let Microsoft add a backdoor to your machine.
Typically, owning a Windows PC is a start before Linux is installed.
If you were upgrading to a next version of Windows; you ust buy a licensed copy. Buying a licensed copy is like getting a digital copy that is tied to your streaming account,–all without a DRM-free version to rely on.
Using Windows is like living in a town where danger is everywhere, and there’s no way to safely cross a street,–even if there’s working signal systems. It’s also like living in a highly polluted part of a city. Highways are the known noise sources that cause animals to speak louder, and make it difficult to navigate in this large city.
What you should do
If you were shopping for a new computer, and you were choosing a Linux machine; follow these guidelines:
- If you have no other choice to buy a Windows computer; don’t set up your account with Windows; instead; Replace it with Linux.
- If you see any computer with Windows installed; leave it on a shelf.
- If you see any offerings for installing Windows 10 for your PC; skip that offer.
- If you are a business owner; purge all Microsoft products when switching to Linux as a way to help cut dependency of Microsoft.
- You must have at least 80% of your machines running Linux as a native OS. If you still need Windows; only allow a max of 2 Windows machines.
- Educate your children about choosing Linux over Windows.
If you wanted to rely on Windows
Only rely on Windows with a local account as an oppose to a Microsoft account. Don’t use it as your main machine.
