Recently; I decided to rebuild my wiki on my VPS. I diconnected my wiki from my multisite as a way to declutter my entire website, and ensure I have a dedicated instance of WordPress. Well, this is my experiment as a way to keep spam comments from flooding my wiki pages.
Nobody like spam comments because, they’re NOT relevant at all, and in some cases; they may post links to phishing websites, and unsafe websites that are designed to harm your computer.
Why You Should Do It?
I decided to do it on my own wiki as a way to ensure I don’t receive spam comments. This is a useful method when I disable comments altogether. I have to mark these comments as spam. Even successful anti-spam measures are useful, but clever spammers has found ways to go around these measures. I am not aware of their trickery that is questionable, and I am always inspect each comment for genuine comments. Most of these spam comments came from certain territories where malicious software is hosted.
When running my WordPress site as a wiki, I need to ensure these comments are NOT spam, and ensure my wiki is as clean as possible. If not… I need to go to each post to turn off this feature.
Spammers can take your time away; take your creative efforts away… and even waste your time finding comments that are NOT spam.
As I experiment running my wiki; I need to keep track of these comments, and ensure these spam comments are NOT present. So, I decided to disable comments altogether; and wait for upcoming comments to arrive on my website.
Here’s what I’m trying to accomplish:
- Ensure my wiki is running smoothly – This is my effort of ensuring my visitors get the best experience when reading my wiki articles. Unfortunately; spammers get clever each year, and I must manually turn off comments on each post.
- Keep My Wiki Spam-Free – This is my primary effort what I’m currently implementing. Being spam-free is necessary to keep my site clean, and free of clutter.
How You Can Do This?
You can go to any of your WordPress posts as a way to turn off these commenting features. Or you can go to your discussions section of your site, and disable comments on newer posts.
If you disable comments across your multisite as a wiki, you can ensure your site is free of spam comments. However; your visitors aren’t able to leave comments. On the plus side; your site is not allowing comments, and your website can run without no effort.
Now, these spammers are blocked from leaving comments, and I can able to do other projects.
