This is a common question what GreenGeeks users asked. However; this is a reason why you may experience this problem:
There’s no content on your website
If you think an index.html file has been created automatically… most likely you have an empty server for your website. This is common when you buy new cups for your kitchen. They come empty without any contents.
Your server is like an empty apartment without any furniture.
It’s like an empty house,–fresh from construction or rebuild.
A fresh trailer what you bought.
A newly built temple.
A store that is newly opened.
You got to have content to present to your customers who visiting your website.
Think about an empty book what you can use to write your own stories, or an empty piece of paper to draw pictures, or blank film installed in your old camera… those are creative tools what we use everyday.
Empty servers help gets the job done for new website owners!
We use servers to host services for our customers who wanted to use SAAS programs, or monetize websites with ads.
We can’t have too much software on our servers, the disk space will be reduced. Well, you do have some software installed by your hosting platform. They provide them for you.
If you use a shared server; it’s like renting an apartment for your family, or yourself,–or renting an office in an office building.
If you rely on a VPS server, you rent a dedicated home, or office building.
If you rely on a dedicated server; it’s like owning a house, or renting a large office building.
If your website grows… you will have lots of content to edit overtime. That can require you to have employees review each piece of content what you create each day.
To fix this problem
- Create an index.html page on your computer, or within CPanel.
- Add content to your file. You can add an image, or text that will enable customers to see your message on your website.
- Save your file, and open your website to test.
- If the 404 page is replaced with your content, your site is running normally.
This is a quick fix to this problem.
If you have visitors visiting your website, you can tell them your status of your website by alerting them about your development, or construction of your website. “Under Construction” messages are the known messages for visitors. Useful for heavy development.
What you can do with your empty server? Why GreenGeeks Don’t Provide an included index.html file?
You heard of a term, “batteries not included”… you must provide your own files. This is one example of building your website yourself. You must provide your own content in order to remove the 404 error.
Common reasons why GreenGeeks don’t provide index.html files on your server is the following:
- Reduce costs of provision of servers to customers.
- Reduces costs of a hosting platform itself.
- Enables a user to start publishing content from scratch.
- Gives a user a room to install software for blogging, and other functions.
- Custs labor costs.
- Cuts development costs.
If GreenGeeks provides an index.html file for you, it may cause all of the bloating of files on each server, and a user must clear away a default file, and replace it with an install of CMS software or his/her content.
That will make it so expensive to host your content.
It’s kind of like land that you lead as a country, or micronation!
By the next time you sign up for a hosting platform, think about ways to run your website!
Almost each website come in many shapes and sizes and designs, you can explore other websites that can entertain you, provide news, tutorials, entertainment, development, and other features.
Unlike stores, they run 24/7; depending on a person who runs a website. Well, I often post on this website when I have new ideas to share. Websites with entertaining content can entertain your visitors. Whether you shop online, read articles, subscribe to services, or even root your Android device… website owners run servers to serve content for our world.
There are some website owners who create content 24/7 by automating publishing via time saved to each post on CMS-based websites like WordPress, Droople, or other software.
